Culberson Amendment to Preserve Historic Battleships Adopted

Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Representative John Culberson (TX-07) offered an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act to preserve our nation’s historic battleships. The amendment creates a competitive grant program within the Department of Interior to maintain battleships like the USS Texas. The grant program would require grantees to provide 1:1 matching of any federal funding received.

“Historic battleships are floating museums that stand as a memorial to the bravery and sacrifice of the servicemen that fought on them. Many of our nation’s treasures are in desperate need of repair, including the Battleship Texas, which has been closed to the public many times due to leaks. We cannot allow this Texas treasure to be lost due to disrepair. This amendment ensures that the Battleship Texas can be preserved through a competitive grant process so that we never lose this national treasure,” Rep. Culberson said.
