Port Arthur City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to authorize a special warranty deed to David R. Hinds for property located at 580 Pleasure Pier Boulevard, also known as Pleasure Island Sea Cabins.

The cabins are owned by the Pleasure Island Commission, with individual properties provided through 99-year leases. Hinds holds such a lease for Unit 105, and received an offer to purchase the unit. A special warranty deed was required to allow Hinds to convey the property.

Council members Harold Doucet and Thomas Kinlaw were not present during the vote.

The city council voted 6-0 to apply for a Texas Historical Commission Grant for Rose Hill Manor, in the amount of $13,800.

Cal Jones, Doucet and Osman Swati were not present at the time of the vote. The grant will provide for work on a chimney and other small work to help stop moisture intrusion into the building.

The city council voted 6-0, with Jones, Doucet and Swati not present, to issue a wrecker business permit to Felix AAA Auto Salvage at 6375 West Port Arthur Road.

The city council voted 8-0, with Doucet not present, to authorize the use of a recreational vehicle as temporary living quarters for a person with special needs.

The city council voted 8-0, with Doucet away, to appoint a member to the Port Arthur Youth Advisory Council.

The city council voted 8-0, with Doucet not present, to appoint members to the Beautification Commission.

Appointed were Linda Ballou, Godfrey Charles, Phyllis Charles and Sheila Williams.

The city council voted 8-0, with Doucet away, to appoint Felix Jones, Sr. to the Citizen's Pipeline Advisory Committee.

The city council voted 8-0, with Doucet not present, to appoint Kalan Gardner, Sr., Mike Mason and Langston Adams to the Police Chief Advisory Committee.

The city council voted 8-0, with Kinlaw not present, to table action regarding a request to increase rates by Texas Gas Service Company for natural gas service in the Gulf Coast Service Area.

The increase would result in a $0.36 rate increase per month for residential customers, $1.80 per month for commercial customers, $2.36 for public authority customers and $43.41 per month for industrial customers.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present at the meeting. Agenda
