Free safety classes

The Center for Risk Management will host two no-cost classes to help individuals and companies increases safety – Blood-borne Pathogens: Disease Transmission Prevention Aug. 4 and Improving Your Respiratory Protection Program Aug. 18.

Exposure to blood and bodily fluids is quite common in many workplaces – not just in the health care environment. This course helps participants identify blood-borne pathogens and protect against exposure. Plus, the class will focus on OSHA requirements, exposure and health effects and post-exposure actions.

Instructor Poorvi Sandesara has a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, human biology and nursing. In 2010, she achieved her doctorate in chiropractic medicine. Her well-rounded background has proven beneficial in recognizing health conditions and incorporating this knowledge into safety.

Respiratory protection programs are more than just buying respirators and making them available to your workforce. Improving Your Respiratory Protection Program will cover the requirements of the OSHA standard, how to develop a cartridge-replacement schedule and identify typical pitfalls that could result in an OSHA citation.

Instructor Shari Robertson has worked in many aspects of safety, including site remediation, disaster relief and corporate safety. Robertson also has experience in developing, maintaining and training OSHA-based programs. She has a proven ability to design company safety programs and train employees in these programs to continually improve their safety and increase their hazard awareness.

All classes are sponsored by Texas Mutual Insurance Company and presented at the Gulf Coast Safety Institute, located at 320 Delany Rd. in La Marque.
