La Porte City Council on Monday voted unanimously to schedule a public hearing for September 11 or the city's propose FY2018 Budget.

The city council will also hold budget workshops during the week of August 14.

The city council voted unanimously to approve an interlocal agreement with the City of Morgan's Point to provide fire protection and prevention, emergency medical service, dispatch, and animal control and jail services.

Morgan's Point will pay a monthly fee of $7,743 for La Porte's services, an increase of $1,197 from the previous agreement. The agreement is for a three year term beginning October 1.

The city council voted 7-1, with Mayor Louis Rigby opposed, to deny a recommendation by the Planning and Zoning Commission to amend regulations related to the placement of carports on residential property.

An item proposing the abandonment of the south one-half of the South Holmes Street right-of-way at blocks 27 and 28 died for lack of a second.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. Council Member Dottie Kaminski was absent. Agenda
