Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership GRCC
Galveston County
Bayou Vista City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, July 26, 2017

Bayou Vista City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to add provisions for flood hazard reduction to the city's building and construction standards.

The standards require that any owners of new or substantially improved property to certify that a structure will be constructed to meet the latest version of the National Flood Insurance Program requirements, and that enclosures below the lowest floor must not be subsequently modified without meeting all NFIP requirements. The provisions also require the city to use its best efforts to document and maintain photographic evidence of the enclosures below the lowest floor prior to issuance certificates of occupancy.

The city council took no action regarding support of the 2017 Galveston County Bond Referendum project list. The item had been placed on the agenda anticipating attendance from representatives of Galveston County. However, no representatives appeared at the meeting.

The city council took no action regarding the removal of a portion of a dock that violates the 5 foot setback rule on property at 373 Ling.

The city council voted unanimously to approve an agreement with Engie for electricity.

The city council tabled action regarding the purchase of a boat for the Bayou Vista Police Department to patrol the city from the canal side of homes. The item was tabled to gather more detailed pricing.

The city council voted unanimously to schedule budget workshops and meetings for the FY2018 Budget. The meetings will begin August 8 and conclude September 19 with a public hearing and approval of the tax rate and budget.

The city council discussed the option of paying to record video of city council meetings, but took no action.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
