The Galveston Police Department to Graduate Largest Cadet Class in Over 20 Years
Graduating class will add five new officers to patrol today, and 14 more will begin patrol upon their graduation from the College of the Mainland police academy in December.

Galveston, Texas – On Friday July 28th the Galveston Police Department will graduate its largest cadet class in over 20 years and will soon award a badge to 19 new officers in total.   After six arduous weeks of training, these cadets will proudly represent the Galveston Police Department as officers with some beginning patrol as soon as Saturday July 29th.

“This addition to the department brings us to our highest staffing level since Hurricane Ike,” said Chief Rick Boyle. “This will provide our officers with the opportunity to spend more time being proactive, with more officers available to react throughout each shift.”

Over the last six weeks, cadets were academically trained in Policy and Procedure, Use of Force, Criminal Investigations, Community Outreach, and Family and Juvenile Crime.  Outside the classroom, they trained in police driving, firearm proficiency, self-defense, building searches, and traffic stops. Five of the officers came to Galveston with their state certification and will begin patrol as early as this Saturday.  The remaining 14 will now begin the police academy at the College of the Mainland and be officially sworn-in upon receiving their state certification.

Please join us as we welcome the following members to the Galveston Police Department family: Cadet Brett Sloan (President of the Cadet Class, Military Veteran), Cadet Joseph Caillet (Military Veteran), Officer Gabriel Goetschius, Officer William Hardman, Cadet Stoney Clement (Military Veteran), Cadet Perry Hicok (Military Veteran), Cadet Joshua Ashley (Military Veteran), Cadet Dylan Ebbs, Cadet Cameron Gillis, Cadet Helene Neuhaus, Cadet Orlando Villarreal, Officer Kristopher Pompa, Officer Leroy Puga, Officer Stefan Fasolino, Cadet Blake Keenan (Military Veteran), Cadet Zachary Dempsey (Military Veteran), Cadet Charles Thompson, Cadet Alexander Groeper, and Cadet Osbaldo Arrellano.

Graduation Day Information:
In advance of the ceremony, the cadets and GPD officers will do a “Graduation Moto Run” as a group that will begin at 6:00 a.m. in the Kroger parking lot. The group will run east along the Seawall until sunrise. The graduation ceremony will be held at the Galveston Island Convention Center on Friday July 28th, 2017 at 3:00pm in the Galion Room.
