ACC Regents Vote to Phase Out Court Reporting Program

The Alvin Community College Board of Regents voted to phase out the Court Reporting program during their meeting on July 27.

The board voted 5-3 in favor of closing it after they received a comprehensive analysis on the program from staff members and heard comments from students, alumni and professionals during the May and July meetings. Courses and services will remain available for students already in the program for the two-year teachout period. The college will no longer accept new students.

The Court Reporting program started at ACC in 1975. The board’s decision came after they requested a review of the program’s status. The analysis included data trends in enrollment, revenue costs, expenses and graduation rates.

Regents Mike Pyburn, Cheryl Knape, Jody Droege, ‘Bel Sanchez and Doyle Swindell voted in favor of phasing the program out. Regents Bart DeWitt, Patty Hertenberger and Andy Tacquard voted against the measure. Regent Roger Stuksa was not present.
