Coast Guard searches for possible person in the water

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for a possible person in the water in Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana, Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 8:50 a.m. from St. Tammany Sherriff’s office of a person in Lake Pontchartrain seen on the west side of the Highway 11 bridge.

The person was described as a white male without a personal floatation device wearing a turquoise shirt.

Sector New Orleans watchstanders directed the launch of a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station New Orleans and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans to search the area.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, St. Tammany Sherriff’s Office, and Sea Tow are also searching the area.

There are no reports of missing people in the area.
