Jefferson County
Port Arthur City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, August 03, 2017

Port Arthur City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to reappoint one member and appoint another to the Citizen's Pipeline Advisory Committee.

Council Member Willie “Bae” Lewis reappointed Warren Field to Position 5 on the committee, while Council Member Osman Swati appointed Russell Buss to Position 6.

The city council voted unanimously to remove from the agenda an item to reject all bids and rebid the West Reverend Dr. Ransom Howard Street project.

The city had received four bids for the project, with the lowest bid totaling $1,265,732, exceeding the $730,000 the city had received through the Texas General Land Office for the project.

After lengthy discussion, the item was removed, and a proposal for funding and completing the project through the bid will be presented at a future meeting.

The city council voted unanimously to table action regarding an ordinance to increase rates for commercial trash service in the city.

The city council voted unanimously to terminate a contract between the Port Arthur Section 4A Economic Development Corporation and Arceneaux Wilson & Cole, LLC for engineering services in connection with the paving, water, sanitary sewer and drainage project for the newly-acquired Jade Avenue Business Park.

The economic development corporation decided not to move forward on the project at this time.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present at the meeting. However, Osman Swati arrived later in the meeting. Agenda
