Jefferson County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to authorize County Judge Jeff Branick to execute an order waiving the county’s claims for injunctive relief regarding litigation pending against Volkswagen.

The United States, the State of California and others reached a settlement with Volkswagen Group of American in June of 2016 in connection with the car company’s installation of devices to defeat diesel emissions testing. The Texas Attorney General’s Office requested a waiver from the county to make clear all “divisions” of the state have done so. Texas is to receive more than $200 million for specific environmental projects as part of the settlement.

The commissioners court voted to establish the Coastal Caverns Reinvestment Zone. The reinvestment zone is required to provide tax abatements to Coastal Caverns, LP, which intends to build facilities for the exploration, storage and marketing of petroleum and minerals products.

The commissioners court voted to approve an interlocal agreement between the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Port Arthur to maintain a multi-agency narcotics enforcement unit.

The commissioners court voted to adopt a resolution recognizing Lori Breaux for her 22 years of service in the District Attorney’s Office and wishing her well in her future endeavors. Resolution
