Fort Bend County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to approve an engagement letter with the firm of Allen Boone Humprhies Robinson, LLP to provide bond counsel services for bonds to be issued pending voter approval in November.

The county will meet on Wednesday to consider calling for a bond referendum to be placed on the November 7 ballot. The proceeds from the bonds will be used to provide for various mobility projects in the county.

Commissioner Grady Prestage said he would support the item, but noted his concern with utilizing the firm repeatedly. Listen (1:33)

“For as long we've been issuing debt we've been stuck with the same bond counsel almost exclusively except for another revenue bond we did a few years ago, and I don't think that's prudent,” Prestage said, stating he understood that the county would see proposals for other bond issues.

“There are plenty of capable firms in this market, and I think we ought to consider them for some of our transactions,” Prestage said.

County Judge Robert Hebert later returned to the item to respond to Prestage's comments, noting that the agreements can be canceled by either party with 30 days notice, and that the county has selected other firms to provide bond counsel services for items such as toll road bonds, and to provide disclosure counsel.
