Investigation into Fatal Crash at 8600 Bellaire Boulevard

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 8600 Bellaire Boulevard about 9:20 a.m. today (August 14).

The identity of the female victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Senior Police Officer R. Saenz reported:

A blue City of Houston Solid Waste Department truck was traveling northbound on South Gessner when its female driver made an illegal right turn onto Bellaire Boulevard and struck an elderly female pedestrian in the crosswalk on Bellaire.  The driver continued eastbound on Bellaire for a short distance until a citizen flagged her down to advise her the truck struck a pedestrian.  The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was questioned, did not show any visible signs of intoxication and consented to a blood draw.

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is continuing.
