La Porte City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, August 15, 2017

La Porte City Council on Monday voted unanimously to amend the city's Code of Ordinances regarding the establishment of school zones within the city.

The amendment adjusts the posted school zone speed limits on various streets around schools and education facilities in the city to uniform times for the affected campuses. School zones will be in effect 6:45 to 8:45 a.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the minutes of the July 24 city council meeting.

The city council discussed, but took no action regarding the city's FY2018 proposed budget. City staff presented the proposed budget during the meeting.

The proposed budget includes no increase to the property tax rate, and no utility rate increases. A proposed 3 percent merit increase is included. The proposed budget has projected capital project expenditures of $9.2 million, including $1.9 million from the Street Maintenance Salex Tax Fund, and $675,000 for vehicle replacement.

Projected revenues for FY2018 total $84.71 million for all funds.

The city council will reconvene tonight at 6 p.m. to further discuss and possibly approve the budget.

No other action items were on the agenda. Council members John Zemanek and Dottie Kaminski were absent. Agenda
