La Marque City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, August 15, 2017

La Marque City Council on Monday voted unanimously to reappoint Michael “Rock” Bock and Louis McGaffey to the Parks Board.

Both will serve two year terms.

The city council took noa ction regarding the reappointment of members of the city council to serve as ex-officio members on boards and commissions. The item will be brought back as a comprehensive ordinance at a later date.

The city council voted unanimously to table action regarding the establishment of a speed limit on Glendale Street of 20 miles per hour, reducing it from 30 miles per hour.

The item was tabled for further study of speed limits on various city streets.

The city council held no executive session.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda

During the meeting, the city council held a public hearing regarding the city's proposed property tax rate of $0.490764 per $100 valuation for the 2017 Tax Year. The rate is the same as the preceding year's tax rate, and exceeds the effective tax rate of $0.471807 per $100 valuation, but does not exceed the rollback tax rate of $0.550912 per $100 valuation.

Therefore, the tax rate, if adopted, would result in additional revenues for FY2018, but would not require a rollback election for adoption.

The city council may adopt a lower tax rate than the proposed rate, but may not exceed the proposed rate.
