Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Beaumont City Council today voted unanimously to adopt a resolution supporting Council Member W. L. Pate's candidacy for president-elect of the Texas Municipal League.

Pate currently serves as president for TML Region 16.

The city council voted to adopt a resolution receiving the proposed FY2018 Budget and scheduling a public hearing for August 29 to receive comments regarding the budget.

The city council voted to approve a proposed tax rate of $0.71 per $100 valuation.

The proposed tax rate exceeds the effective tax rate by 4.8 percent, and therefore will increase revenues for FY2018. Public hearings are to be scheduled for August 29 and September 12 to receive comments regarding the budget.

The city council voted to approve an affiliation agreement with Lamar State College Orange.

Under the agreement, the city's Emergency Medical Services Division will provide clinical experience to students from the college majoring in the Emergency Medical Services Program.

The city council voted to approve a contract with Habitat for Humanity.

The city will provide $92,488 in Community Development Block Grant funding to assist in repairs and improvements for low-to-moderate income families.

The city council voted to authorize the city manager to pursue funding, in the amount of $25,925 through the 2017 Helping Heroes Grant.

All action items were approved. All votes were unanimous with all members present. Agenda
