Remembering Jim Guidry Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership
Galveston County
Galveston County Commissioners Court
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, August 17, 2017

Galveston County Commissioners Court, in a special meeting today, voted unanimously to adopt a resolution approving the amended and restated Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of the Gulf Coast Protection District, formerly the Gulf Coast Community Protection and Recovery District.

Galveston County is one of the sponsoring agencies of the district, which was formed in 2010 to study and develop means to reduce the impact of storm surge caused by windstorms along the upper Texas Gulf Coast.

Other counties involved include Brazoria, Chambers, Harris, Jefferson and Orange.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a resolution to authorize County Judge Mark Henry to negotiate an interlocal agreement with the county judges of Harris, Chambers and Brazoria counties relating to storm surge protection, which is to be brought back for consideration by the commissioners court.

The agreement relates to the financing, design, development, construction, operation, management and maintenance of projects to reduce the risk of storm surge induced flooding within the boundaries of the participating counties.

The actions includes the name change from the Gulf Coast Community Protection and Recovery District to the Gulf Coast Protection District.

No other action items were on the agenda. Commissioner Stephen Holmes was absent. Agenda
