BARC JOINING TELEMUNDO HOUSTON/KTMD TO HOST THIRD ANNUAL
CLEAR THE SHELTERS PET ADOPTION EVENT

Special Adoption Fees at BARC Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20

HOUSTON - BARC is joining Telemundo Houston/ KTMD to host NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations' Clear the Shelters third annual nationwide pet adoption drive on Saturday, August 19.  BARC will offer $5 adoption fees for dogs 5 months and older and $1 adoptions for all cats and kittens on Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20 as part of the nationwide initiative that seeks to help families find and adopt homeless pets. Since 2015, Clear the Shelters has resulted in more than 70,000 pet adoptions nationwide. Thanks to Proler Southwest Sims Metal Management for sponsoring this weekend's BARC adoption specials.

Houstonians can enjoy activities such as face painting and corn hole at BARC on Saturday, August 19 during the Clear the Shelters event, as well as hot dogs and hamburgers sponsored by Friends of BARC.

"We are excited to participate in this event again this year and hope to have a great turnout," said Ashtyn Rivet, BARC Deputy Assistant Director. "Clear the Shelters provides a great opportunity to raise awareness for adoptable dogs and cats all over the country and we look forward to placing many BARC animals in forever homes this weekend."

Houstonians can visit ClearTheShelters.com to access more information about Clear the Shelters, including the full list of local participating animal shelters. A real-time pet "Adoption Tracker" - posted on ClearTheShelters.com - will record the total number of pets that are adopted across all participating markets.

Pets currently available for adoption can be found on BARC's website, but BARC encourages all Houstonians to stop by BARC at 3300 Carr Street, Houston, TX 77026 and meet each animal in person. BARC is open for adoptions seven days a week from noon to 5:00p.m.

If you are unable to permanently adopt a pet but would like to help animals in need, BARC is especially in need of foster pet parents. Many dogs and cats enter BARC with treatable skin conditions, upper respiratory infections and other treatable conditions that must be taken care of outside of the shelter before adoption. Some puppies and kittens that enter BARC are too young for adoption and must be fostered before they can go home with a permanent family. By getting these animals out of BARC and into foster homes, BARC has more space for additional animals as they enter the shelter. Visit www.houstonbarc.com or www.Facebook.com/BARCHouston for more information.
