Residents Encouraged to Monitor Forecast, Review Severe Weather Plans

What is the danger?

As we enter the peak of hurricane season, there is a slight to moderate risk for tropical weather to affect the Texas coast later this week. According to the National Weather Service, the disorganized remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey will likely reorganize and strengthen over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico as early as Wednesday.

What you need to do:

Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) encourages residents to monitor the forecast daily and prepare for tropical weather later this week.

This is an ideal time to check your kit, and plan. One of the first steps in creating your family’s disaster plan is finding out if you live in a hurricane evacuation zone. Residents of Harris County and the surrounding region can do this with just a few simple clicks! View our interactive Zip-Zone Evacuation Map, enter your address and the map will immediately show you whether you are in a mandatory evacuation zone. In the event of a hurricane evacuation, they will be ordered by zip code. There are no evacuation orders at this time.

Texans with functional and access needs have to prepare for disasters just like everyone else. The Texas Division of Emergency Management has links to resources specifically designed to help functional and access needs residents get a kit, make a plan and be informed.  Click here or call 2-1-1 for more information.

Download HCOHSEM's ReadyHarris mobile app. The free app puts the power to build a personalized preparedness plan in the palm of your hand and is available for both Apple and Android devices.

Make sure you follow HCOHSEM on Facebook & Twitter for up to date information.
