by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, August 23, 2017

The Hitchcock City Commission on Monday voted 4-1, with Monica Cantrell opposed, to propose a tax rate of $0.50 per $100 valuation for the 2017 Tax Year.

The proposed rate exceed the effective tax rate, and will increase the city's revenues from existing properties compared to 2016. The 2016 property tax rate is $0.413202 per $100 valuation.

The city commission voted 4-1, with Cantrell opposed, to approve the proposed FY2018 General Fund Budget and FY2018 Utility Fund Budget.

The city commission voted unanimously to award a $96,901 contract to CZ Construction, LLC for sanitary sewer evaluation and rehabilitation.

The city commission voted unanimously to award a $189,907 contract to Pittsburg Tank & Tower Maintenance Co., Inc. for the Harborwalk Elevated Storage Tank Overflow Rehabilitation Project.

The city commission voted 4-1, with Cantrell opposed, to amend the city's regulations regarding game rooms.

The amendments result in a cap of 14 game rooms to operate in the city, and an increase in the fee for game machines from $300 to $400 per machine. The amendments also included a change to the city's sign ordinances to state that the term “game room” could not be utilized in signage.

The city commission voted unanimously to direct the police chief to review applications for addition of a wrecker service to the city's rotation list and bring back a recommendation.

The item had been related to adding a wrecker to replace All American Towing.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
