Houston City Council today voted unanimously to appropriate $84,000 out of the Equipment Acquisition Fund, $43,200 out of the Contributed Capital Project Fund, and $1,230,447 out of the Fleet Equipment Special Revenue Fund for the purchase of various vehicles for Fleet Management Department, ARA-BARC, and Parks Department.

“There’s a real need,” said Stardig. “We got a lot of dogs being picked up and taken down... We’re trying to get them chipped and whatever we have to do to make it right.”

Council Member Karla Cisneros also said the BARC funds appropriation will aid with the quality of life.

The city council voted unanimously to enter into a sponsorship agreement with CAPA – CENTRE for sponsoring, coordinating and managing the 2018 Aviation Summit in Houston next April.

The city council voted unanimously to amend Article XVI, Chapter 40 of the Code of Ordinances by adding an area within the Near Northside as a designated area covered by the civility ordinance. The ordinance prohibits lying, sitting, or depositing personal possessions on sidewalks during most daylight hours.

The city council did not take action on the following four items:

  • International Name Plate U.S., Inc. for Vehicle Decals and Decal Materials for the Fleet Management Department, tagged by Larry Green and Mike Knox.
  • Ordinance amending Chapter 40 of the City Code of Ordinances, by adding a new Article XXI, relating to facilities in the public right-of-way, tagged by David Robinson.
  • Ordinance appropriating $18,908,000.00 out of Equipment Acquisition Consolidated Fund for the purchase of Vehicles and related equipment for various City Departments, tagged by Michael Kubosh.
  • Ordinance approving and authorizing Purchase and Sale Agreement between the City of Houston, Texas, Seller, and Trailhead Management, LLC, Purchaser, for the sale of approximately 12.83 acres of land located at 12800 Fuqua Street, Houston, Harris County, Texas [Parcel No. SY14-137], for $994,800.00, pulled from the agenda.

Earlier in the meeting, Mayor Sylvester Turner discussed the potential for inclement weather this weekend as a result of the remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey.
