Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership GRCC
Galveston County
Dickinson City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, August 23, 2017

Dickinson City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to propose a property tax rate of $0.40816 per $100 valuation for the 2017 Tax Year.

The city will host public hearings on September 5 and September 12 to receive comments regarding the proposed tax rate, with adoption to be considered on September 26. The city may adopt a tax rate lower than the proposed rate, but may not adopt a higher rate than proposed.

The proposed rate exceeds the effective tax rate of $0.382134 per $100 valuation, but does not exceed the rollback rate of $0.413435. If adopted, the proposed rate would generate additional revenue from existing properties compared to 2016.

The city council voted unanimously to renew an interlocal agreement with Galveston County for emergency medical response services in unincorporated areas of the county adjacent to the city.

The city council voted unanimously to approve, on first reading, an ordinance updating the city's right-of-way regulations to include regulations for the installation of wireless network nodes in public rights-of-way.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the minutes of the August 8 city council meeting, with a minor correction.

The city council took no action resulting from executive session discussions regarding contemplated litigation and discussion of the duties of the city administrator.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
