Galveston Police Arrest Former Galveston ISD Teacher for Sexual Assault

On August 23rd 2017, Galveston Police took 27-year-old Eliezer Marquez into custody for the offenses of Sexual Assault of a Child and Improper Relationship between Educator/Student.

On August 8th, the Galveston Police Department’s Family Services Unit was contacted by GISD Police and informed that they had reason to believe that one of the teachers from Ball High School was having an inappropriate relationship with a 16 year old female student. Galveston PD investigators along with personnel from the Galveston ISD Police Department conducted an in depth investigation during which they spoke with several parties including both the victim and suspect and conducted searches of both of their cell phones to corroborate their statements.

The results of the investigation revealed that during the spring semester of the 2016-2017 school year the victim met Marquez outside of the school environment through a family member who was a mutual acquaintance. After this meeting, the victim and Marquez began conversing both at school and via text messages. During one of these meetings in Marquez’s classroom, the victim stated that the two kissed and that he put his hand up her skirt. After the end of the school year in late June it was discovered that Marquez picked up the victim from a volunteering event at UTMB and drove her out to a secluded section near East Beach. According to the victim, the two then engaged in sexual intercourse in Marquez’s truck. Searches of both the victim and suspect’s cell phone also revealed that they had sent nude photos of themselves to each other.

At the time the warrant was issued, Marquez had recently resigned his position from GISD. Marquez was remanded to the Galveston County Jail on one count each of Sexual Assault of a Child and Improper Relationship between Educator/Student, both 2nd Degree Felonies, with a total bond of $40,000.00.
