Galveston County Transit District Board of Directors
by John David Suayan
Thursday, August 24, 2017

The Galveston County Transit District Board of Directors on Wednesday voted unanimously to approve a resolution of support for the Gulf Coast Center’s application for discretionary grant funding for bus and bus facilities through the Federal Transit Administration.

The Gulf Coast Center and the City of Texas City are developing a new Administration, Operations, Park and Ride, and Emergency Management Facility. A request for $3.01 million is being submitted to eliminate a shortfall for implementing the project.

The board voted unanimously to approve a resolution requesting the allocation of Houston Urbanized Area federal formula funding to support the League City Park and Ride program.

Transportation consultant Barry Goodman of The Goodman Corporation talked about a recent meeting with the Houston-Galveston Area Council and the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County regarding the League City Park and Ride attended by a few GCTD board members.

“We discussed the fact that the current funding we have for the League City Park and Ride will run out by the end of the year,” said Goodman. “If we don’t find additional federal funds then that service will likely be shut down.”

Kari Hackett, of the H-GAC, provided an update on Transportation Improvement Project calls, project submittals, and livable centers while Travis Madison, of the Texas Department of Transportation, briefed the board on FY2017 funding commitments.

The board welcomed new member and Bayou Vista City Council Member Louis “Lou” Wortham.
