HURRICANE HARVEY IMPACTS CAUSE SUSPENSION OF ISLAND TRANSIT SERVICES ON GALVESTON ISLAND

Galveston, Texas – Due to high-water on numerous roadways throughout the City, Island Transit has halted operations until further notice. This includes all transit operations (including the League City Park & Ride) as well as trolley operations.

Assistant City Manager over Transit Operations, Rick Beverlin, will continue to monitor roadway conditions and will announce when we will be resuming services through the City’s multiple media channels.

Other reminders and new developments from previous releases:

  • We have issued a voluntary evacuation for west end residents.
  • We have suggested that those who live in low lying areas understand that they may have periods of inaccessibility by emergency responders, power outages, and city service interruptions if they stay.
  • All non-essential City employees were sent home today at noon.
  • All City facilities will be closed until Wednesday.
  • The Lasker Park Community Pool will be closed until Wednesday.
  • We held a press conference today and heard from numerous governmental entities on the Island about interruptions to services that affect the community. The video can be found online at http://galvestontx.swagit.com/play/08252017-632.
