Voluntary Evacuation for residents along the Brazos River and San Bernard Rivers

The National Weather Service is predicting major river flooding along the Brazos River and San Bernard River in Brazoria County. All residents affected by the Brazos River flood in 2016 need to be on high alert and prepared to evacuate on short notice.

A Voluntary Evacuation is being issued for East Columbia, Columbia Lakes, and all areas in the low lying floodplain zones of both rivers. Village of Bailey’s Prairie per Mayor Jo Maple has also issued a voluntary evacuation.

National Weather Service is expecting localized heavy rainfall in our area, and also in both river basins to the north. If the region receives the predicted rainfall a Mandatory Evacuation will be issued for residents living in these areas.

We are asking all residents living in low lying areas, along bayous, creeks and rivers be prepared to evacuate. This is a volatile weather event and residents need to stay informed and ready to evacuate.

Residents living in the voluntary evacuation areas with no place to stay can self-evacuate to Bell County. Residents will need to register at Bell County Expo Center, 301 West Loop 121, Belton, TX 76513. There will be signs directing residents to the Expo Center.
