Galveston County, TX (August 27, 2017) – As catastrophic flooding continues in the Houston and surrounding areas, The Salvation Army is helping with rescue efforts of local municipalities in Galveston County.

In Texas City, high water rescues are being executed and evacuees brought to the Sanders Vincent Community Center at 501 4th Avenue North in Texas City.

Shelter coordinators are asking for donations of food, blankets, pillows, shoes, clothes and toiletries. Currently there are 100 people are varying ages and sizes. That number is expected to grow. 

The City of Hitchcock is conducting high water rescues and bringing evacuees to The Salvation Army Center of Hope in Galveston. The Salvation Army has converted its chapel and classrooms into dorms to house the survivors.
