City of Friendswood
News Release
Monday, August 28, 2017

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those that are missing and that have lost their homes.

In the past few days, parts of Friendswood have received more than 29 inches of rain. As of Monday at 10:45 a.m., creek levels are falling, but more rain is expected. Catastrophic flooding has occurred within the City. Large areas remain impassible. Response personnel continue to pull people out of high water.

If your home is dry, you are asked to stay in your home and not venture out into high water. Flood water contains many hazards including snakes, ants, and sewage from overflowed toilets. Please do not kayak into flooded areas. If your home was flooded, we ask that you do not return until the flood waters have subsided.

The City will begin assessing residential damages once the water recedes. Only call 9-1-1 to report urgent emergencies. Do not call to report high water.

A mandatory curfew is in effect from 10 p.m. to dawn until further notice. This curfew applies to all persons.

The City is currently assessing the City’s infrastructure. Water remains safe to drink.
