KINGWOOD RED CROSS SHELTER NOW OPEN

Houston - Houston City Council Member Dave Martin has secured the use of Lone Star College Kingwood's Gymnasium for the use as a Red Cross shelter located at 20000 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood, TX 77339. It is now open and can be used as a secure shelter. This evening there is no food but we do have water on the way. We are coordinating with the Red Cross to have supplies delivered tonight.

No evacuations have been issued for Kingwood. We still encourage residents to shelter in place. Should high water rescues be needed please contact the HPD Citizen Line by calling 832-395-1820. There will be NO night time water rescues with the exception of medical emergencies, our boats are not equipped with appropriate lights to conduct nighttime rescues. At first light we will have a brigade of boats to assist with all high water rescues.

We have secured shelter volunteers at this time but if you are interested in volunteering please send an email to kwsheltervolunteers@gmail.com with your name and email address. We do not have a need for supplies at this time but if you wish to be alerted when the shelter is in need of supplies please email kwsheltersupplies@gmail.com

with your name, email, and what you are willing to donate. We are only seeking volunteers and donations from residents with high water vehicles (lifted trucks) at this time.

When the need arises the shelter will need donations of individual snacks, water, clothing (clean clothes, undergarments, socks), blankets, pillows, towels, toiletries (deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes), phone chargers, Clorox wipes, feminine sanitary products, infant and adult diapers, baby formula and baby food.

Additinally, Creekwood Middle School will be open as a transport location at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017 to transport residents directly to Lone Star College Kingwood. Again no evacuations have been issued for the Kingwood or Lake Houston Area at this time. Huge thank you to the Lone Star College System and Lone Star College Kingwood for the use of their building. All this would not be possible without the assistance of our first responders who are working tirelessly throughout the region. Please keep them in your prayers.

The District E office continues to monitor the weather from remote locations and the best way to reach the office is districte@houstontx.gov.
