City of La Porte
News Release
Tuesday, August 29, 2017

This is an important update from the City of La Porte.  As we continue to monitor weather conditions throughout today, we would like to provide you with information on recovery efforts.

The regular residential garbage schedule has resumed today, August 29th.  All other non-essential city services will remain closed today.  Please DO NOT place any heavy trash or debris outside, as this could potentially clog storm drains and escalate drainage problems.

City staff are conducting assessments of damaged property throughout the city.  If you have sustained any damage to your home or business as a result of this storm, we encourage you to report this to your insurance providers as soon as possible.  We also ask you to report damages to the City at www.laportetx.gov/damagereport

FEMA is making assistance available to those that have been impacted by this storm.  To register for FEMA assistance, visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).

As you plan for home repairs, please make sure your contractor is on file with the City.  The Planning & Development Department reviews all contractors to ensure they have a current Certificate of Insurance for Liability.   To reference the list of registered contractors, visit www.laportetx.gov.  In the aftermath of a natural disaster, we often hear reports of people being victimized.  We urge you to do your research and check the list!

Permits are required for all repairs and improvements over $1,000.  The Planning & Development Department will waive all permit fees for storm-related damages, and will be open today for permitting purposes only.  If you have questions, please contact planning@laportetx.gov or call 281-470-5073.
