Governor Abbott And President Trump Receive Briefing And Give Update On Harvey

AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today joined President Donald J. Trump in Corpus Christi to meet with local leaders and relief organizations and receive a detailed briefing on the ongoing recovery effort. In addition to the briefing, Governor Abbott and President Trump were joined by federal, state, and local officials to continue discussion to improve coordination of resources and response efforts.


"I want to reassure all Texans impacted by this storm that federal, state, and local officials are working around the clock to respond to this disaster and ensure the safety of all those in the storm's path," said Governor Abbott. "I also want to thank President Trump for his leadership and commitment in helping the people of Texas recover from this storm. The Texas response to this unprecedented disaster has been swift and focused, and we are committed to continuing our work with all federal and local partners for as long as it takes to help these communities recover."


“Nobody's ever seen anything like this, and I just want to say that working with the governor and his entire team has been an honor for us,” said President Trump. “Recovery will be a long and difficult road, and the federal government stands ready, willing and able to support that effort. We've pledged our full support as Texas and Louisiana recover from this devastating and historic storm.”


Following the visit to Corpus Christi, Governor Abbott and President Trump returned to the Texas State Operations Center (SOC) in Austin to receive an extensive briefing on the current status of the storm and the recovery effort. The Governor and President reaffirmed their number one priority is protecting life and rescuing those in harms way. The President also stated his commitment to doing everything possible to help Texas in the recovery effort. 


Also in attendance during today's events were Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Elaine Duke, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, Small Business Administration Administrator Linda McMahon, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Brock Long, Texas Senator John Cornyn, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Rep. Michael McCaul as well as a number of other federal, state and local officials.
