Galveston County
Galveston County Judge's Office
News Release
Thursday, August 31, 2017

The Galveston County Office of Emergency Management today provided updates regarding conditions following the impact of Hurricane Harvey.

- The Mandatory Evacuation has been lifted for the City of Dickinson

- Mall of the Mainland is full of donations. We are asking the public to redirect their donations to another county that needs them or to hold-off for now. We’ve received an overwhelming amount of donations.

Also, several cities have reported issues with the public approaching utility workers while they’re out working on the electrical lines, and we want to make sure people know NOT to do that as it puts them in danger!

- The Medical Examiner has confirmed four deaths as a result of Hurricane Harvey

- For those calling and wanting to volunteer, we are encouraging them to help with clean-up! Neighbors are getting back to their homes and beginning demo and clean-up efforts, the best way to help is to get your [gloved] hands dirty! There is no point-of-contact or coordinating for this, just help your neighbors wherever you are

- Commissioners Court will host an emergency meeting tomorrow to declare a burn ban for Bolivar Peninsula since they only have about 2-3 days worth of water left and could be without water for weeks. (ICYMI the pump station in Winnie which supplies their water was submerged yesterday.) Meeting details are in the works and will be posted shortly

-All major roadways in Galveston County are clear and open

-County facilities will be open tomorrow, those employees affected by Hurricane Harvey who cannot make it to work should contact their Dept. Head/Elected Official
