BP donates 100,000 gallons of fuel to support Texas first responders

HOUSTON – BP has donated 100,000 gallons of fuel for first responders in the Houston area to use in cleanup efforts, part of the company’s ongoing commitment to help the region recover from the damage Harvey caused.

“Houston is our home, and we are grateful to the many first responders and volunteers who are starting to clean up from this devastating storm and helping those in need of aid, including many of our employees,” said John Mingé, chairman and president of BP America.

BP worked closely with the federal government and state authorities to provide the donation to the state of Texas. It follows a $750,000 donation BP and the BP Foundation divided evenly among the American Red Cross, Community Foundation of Greater Houston and the United Way of Greater Houston to help provide flood victims with food, water, health services and shelter in Houston and surrounding Texas communities that have been significantly impacted by the storm.

Also, the BP Foundation now is matching employee gifts to eligible Harvey-related organizations at a 2:1 rate.

Houston is home to BP’s U.S. headquarters and the single-largest concentration of BP employees anywhere in the world, with roughly 4,500 people in the region. In Texas, BP directly employs nearly 6,000 people and spends more than $9.2 billion with local businesses, supporting 28,000 jobs in the state.
