Kemah City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, September 07, 2017

Kemah City Council on Wednesday voted unanimously to adopt a property tax rate of $0.193 per $100 valuation for the 2017 Tax Year.

The city council had initially proposed a tax rate of $0.219214 per $100 valuation. The effective tax rate, or the amount needed to raise revenues equal to that of last year, was $0.194225 per $100 valuation.

The city council voted unanimously on a roll call vote, to adopt the city's FY2018 Budget.

The budget was amended, by unanimous vote, to include revised sales tax revenues and a six-month hiring freeze on a public works position.

The city council voted unanimously to approve an ordinance waiving building permit fees imposed by the city for Hurricane Harvey related damages. The item was amended to change Section 1, Paragraph B to include a termination date of December 31.

The city council voted 3-2, with Kyle Burks and Wanda Zimmer opposed, to table action regarding an interlocal agreement with the Kemah Community Development Corporation concerning the allocation of costs between the two entities for a performance rebate payment.

The city council discussed, but took no action regarding a variance for a special area along the 6th Street corridor between Bradford Street and Kipp Street where abudding owners may install certain removable structures up to a zero lot line, but requiring a survey of the lot and public right-of-way at the owner's expense before any permits are issued.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
