La Marque City Council on Monday voted unanimously to amend the city's solid waste collection charges with Waste Management.

Waste Management's contract takes effect October 1. Residential rate will be $21.20 per month, not including sales tax, for twice weekly residential collection. Also included is recycling, collected every other week, once a week bulky waste collection, hazardous waste/electronics collection.

Mayor Pro Tem Keith Bell asked questions regarding the replacement of damaged carts. The council reached consensus stating that “every benefit of benevolence” be given to the customer. Listen (6:59)

The city council voted to approve an ordinance, on first reading, to amend maximum speed limits in school zones and prohibit parking on certain streets during school hours.

The item was approved with the exception of McArthur Drive, which is on the south side of La Marque Elementary, being designated as a one-way street during school hours, per the motion by Council Member Keith Bell.

The city council voted to authorize the city manager to negotiate conditions of contracts for debris monitoring and disaster debris clearance and removal.

TLC Engineering was awarded the proposal for debris monitoring, while debris cleanup was awarded to CrowderGulf.

Council Member Robert Michetich noted that the motion was required due to rules set by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Listen (6:21)

The city council voted to support the nomination of appointments and reappointments to the Galveston County United Board of Health.

Eric Froeschner, Dr. Ben Raimer and Dr. John Hackbarth have been nominated for reappointment, while Vanessa Johnson has been nominated as a new appointment.

The city council voted to nominate Bruce Clawson for election to the Galveston Central Appraisal District Board of Directors.

The city council voted to appoint Abby Cash to the Building and Standards Board.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Chris Lane absent. Agenda
