U.S. News & World Report Names University of St. Thomas
Among Best Colleges and Best Value in the West

Houston – The University of St. Thomas ranks 26th in the 2018 edition of the U.S. News and World Report’s “Best Colleges” list of universities in the western region of the United States.

University rankings provide a starting point to compare various aspects of different schools at a glance. Combined with campus visits and interviews, the rankings provide a resource for parents and students contemplating one of life’s biggest decisions.

“Year after year, the University of St. Thomas earns a top-tier place on the prestigious list of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges in the West,” said UST President Dr. Richard Ludwick. “St. Thomas attracts and retains talented students from around the world who join us for a unique, Catholic, Basilian, liberal arts education that prepares them for rewarding careers and lives.

U.S. News & World Report surveyed more than 1,611 colleges and universities for its annual publication, and based its rankings on 15 widely accepted areas related to academic excellence.

UST’s low student to faculty ratio of 10:1 and the high percentage of freshmen who were ranked in the top quarter of their high school graduating class were key factors in St. Thomas’ ranking. About 3,300 students come to St. Thomas from 37 states and 59 countries.

The University offers 36 undergraduate degrees and 19 graduate degree programs, including two doctoral programs in philosophy and education. The 659 regional universities in this category are not ranked nationally but rather against their peer group in one of four regions – North, South, Midwest and West.

UST named one of the Best Value Schools

U.S. News and World Report also named University of St. Thomas as one of its best value universities in the western region.  For the majority of prospective college students and their families, cost is a major factor in determining which schools are viable options. This best buy designation means that UST provides the highest quality education for value price.
