Houston police are investigating several incidents that occurred during the weekend, including Sunday's fatal shooting of one man and wounding of another at 10096 South Gessner.

Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 10096 South Gessner

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of another at 10096 South Gessner about 9 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 17).

The identity of the deceased victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  The other wounded victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives T. Andrade and S. Overstreet reported:

Officers were dispatched to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital regarding two shooting victims, males in their 20s, who arrived in a personal vehicle.  

Investigators learned the victims were at a business at 10096 South Gessner when they were approached by an unknown black male suspect.  The suspect asked the victims for a cigarette and then began shooting at the two men.  Moments later, the suspect was seen leaving the scene with two other males in a white vehicle with paper license plates.  A passerby picked up the victims and drove them to the hospital.

Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 2511 Stevens

The fatal shooting of a man at 2511 Stevens about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday (September 17) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury. 

The victim, Juan Capetillo, 40, of Houston, was pronounced deceased at Ben Taub General Hospital. 

The female shooter, 34, was not injured in the incident. 

HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Villareal and W. Huff reported: 

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and found Mr. Capetillo lying on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to the chest.  He was then transported by HFD paramedics to the hospital.  Capetillo's girlfriend was detained at the scene. 

Further investigation determined Capetillo and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument prior to the shooting. 

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is continuing.

Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5600 West Bellfort

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 5600 West Bellfort about 8:25 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 17).

The identities of the two deceased male victims are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer D. Ashford reported:

One of the victims was driving a gray Nissan Maxima at a high rate of speed eastbound on West Bellfort when the vehicle hit a road bump, left the roadway, jumped a curb and traveled onto the front yard of a residence at 5523 West Bellfort where it struck a tree.  The driver and the other victim, a passenger in the Nissan, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.

Investigation into Fatal Crash at 3700 Katy Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 3700 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 10:10 p.m. last Friday (Sept. 15).

The identity of the deceased female victim, 40, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer M. Nicotra reported:

The victim was walking in the inbound lanes of the freeway at the above address when she was struck by a black Ford F-250 pickup truck and a gray Ford Fusion.  The drivers stopped, were questioned and then released.

The investigation is continuing.
