Concert in Stevenson Park to benefit flood victims

A “Friendswood Strong” benefit concert, headlined by Funksion, will be held Saturday, September 23 at 3 p.m. in Stevenson Park, Friendswood.

Friendswood’s own Aric Harding, who gained notoriety in a video showing him playing the piano in knee-deep flood water following Hurricane Harvey, will also be on the Stevenson Park Gazebo stage that afternoon.

“Friendswood Strong” t-shirts will be sold by the Friends of Downtown Friendswood Association, with proceeds going to the Friendswood Rotary Club Charitable Foundation. The Foundation is receiving donations to help local response and benevolent services organizations which are serving flood victims. Donations received will help provide housing, clothing, and other basic needs. Funds will also be used on a priority basis to include cleaning materials, securing property, and to assist with repairs of homes.

If you cannot attend the concert, you can donate at The link accepts PayPal, credit, or debit cards. Financial donations to the Rotary Charitable Foundation may also be made through Hometown Bank of Friendswood.

Pounders, Nacho Nacho, and Angie's Cake food trucks will be in the Park, as well.

Keep Friendswood Beautiful (KFB) is providing inflatables to entertain kids during the concert.

Before the concert, at 8 a.m. September 23, everyone is invited to the KFB “Fall Sweep” in Stevenson Park. Come clean up the park and make Friendswood beautiful again after Harvey. Please wear work clothes, and closed-toed shoes. KFB is accepting trash bags, rubber gloves, and masks, as donations.
