La Marque City Council on Monday voted unanimously to adopt, on final reading, a property tax rate of $0.490764 per $100 valuation for the 2017 Tax Year.

The adopt rate does exceed the effective tax rate of $0.471807 per $100 valuation by 4.02 percent, meaning the adopted rate will collect more revenues from existing properties than the previous year.

The city council voted unanimously to adopt, on final reading, the city's FY2018 Budget.

The city council voted unanimously to approve a contract with Galveston County for the provision of fire protection services to unincorporated areas of the county in return for payment in the amount of $22,500 from the county.

The city council voted unanimously to rename, on first reading, the Clean City Commission as the “Keep La Marque Beautiful Commission.”

The city council voted unanimously to reappoint Carlton Getty as alternate municipal court judge. Getty will continue with an increase in pay from $275 per docket to $400 per docket.

The city council voted 4-0 to authorize the city manager to continue negotiations as discussed in executive session concerning the lease of property for use as city facilities. Mayor Bobby Hocking recused himself from participating in the vote.

Representatives from Waste Management were present prior to and during the meeting to greet residents. Waste Management will begin providing solid waste collection services for La Marque on October 2.

Ben Davis, with TLC Monitoring, the company providing debris monitoring services for the city, spoke during the meeting.
