Officer involved shooting in La Porte

At approximately 5:30pm Tuesday September 19, 2017, La Porte Police Dispatch received multiple calls on 911 reporting shots being fired, followed by calls of a man with a rifle walking up and down the street in the 5000 block of Glenview Drive. Callers described the man as wearing a camo shirt and khaki pants.

Officers arrived in the area and made contact with the suspect’s wife who reported that her husband was armed and suicidal. While gathering information, the suspect came out of the residence with an assault-type rifle and confronted the officers. After repeated commands to drop the rifle the suspect pointed the weapon at officers. The suspect was then fired upon by La Porte officers and struck. La Porte EMS was immediately summoned to the scene and advised that the suspect was deceased.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office, along with the Texas Rangers, were contacted, and will be conducting an investigation into the shooting.
