Letter to the Editor
by Carolann Peters, CEO, BACODA
Friday, September 22, 2017

Dear Editor:

The time after a natural disaster is stressful for everyone in the area, and that stress can be triggering for people who struggle with substance misuse and addiction. Recovering from a disaster like Hurricane Harvey will take many months and even years to be complete. There are resources in the community to support you during these difficult times. The Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol (BACODA) is a leading resource across the Galveston Bay Area. We have Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors who are available to talk to you. No one is turned away for an inability to pay.

Recovery is a marathon and not a sprint. It will take the entire community to recover from this disaster. BACODA is committed to serving the entire community and aiding in recovery efforts as much as we can. We have collected a list of community-based resources on our website at www.bacoda.org/disaster.html relating to all areas of recovery efforts. For assistance with substance abuse related issues or referrals, please call us at 1-800-510-3111.

Sincerely,
Carolann Peters
CEO, BACODA
