Austin, TX - Matagorda County Judge Nate McDonald was elected President of the Texas Association of Regional Councils Board at the 2017 TARC Annual Meeting in Austin, TX. 

TARC assists regional councils of government in strengthening their capabilities to serve their local government members; provides a forum for the regular exchange of information and ideas; educates other governmental entities, public and private organizations, and the general public about the services and functions of regional councils; and represents the councils before both state and federal agencies and legislative bodies.  

Judge McDonald has served as Matagorda County Judge since 2007. He presides over the county’s criminal, civil, probate, guardianship, and mental courts. Judge McDonald has represented the Houston-Galveston Area Council on the TARC Board since September 2014. He is a past Chair of the H-GAC Board of Directors, and serves on the Election, Legislative, Finance & Budget and Water Resources Committees.

The Houston-Galveston Area Council ( is a voluntary association of local governments in the 13-county Gulf Coast Planning Region—an area of 12,500 square miles and more than 6 million people. H-GAC works to promote efficient and accountable use of local, state, and federal tax dollars and serves as a problem-solving and information forum for local government needs.
