La Porte City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, September 26, 2017

La Porte City Council on Monday voted unanimously to adopt the city's FY2018 Budget.

The budget includes proposed expenditures totaling $92,649,667, a reduction in spending of $3,222,227 from the revised FY2017 Budget.

The city council voted unanimously to adopt a property tax rate of $0.71 per $100 valuation for the 2017 Tax Year.

Of the total tax rate, revenues from $0.605 per $100 valuation will fund the city's operations, while revenues from the remaining $0.105 per $100 valuation will be dedicated to payments on the city's bonded indebtedness. The rate is the same as adopted for 29 years.

The city council voted unanimously to nominate Mike Sullivan for election to the Harris County Appraisal District Board of Directors.

Sullivan, if elected, would replace Ed Heathcott, who did not seek re-election.

The city council voted8-1, with Nancy Ojeda opposed, to approve a motion denying a request for further consideration and to move forward with condemnation and demolition of a substandard building located at 621 West Main Street.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
