Remembering Jim Guidry Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership
Galveston County
Galveston Park Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, September 28, 2017

The Galveston Park Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously to allocate donated funds received during the upcoming Galveston Giveback Weekend, which takes place September 30-October 1, to the Galveston County Recovery Fund administered by the United Way of Galveston.

The park board, in a meeting on September 12, approved waiving beach user fees for the weekend, and will seek donations for Hurricane Harvey relief. The board had asked staff to return with a suggestion for where the funds should be directed.

The United Way of Galveston is the fiscal agent for the Galveston County Recovery Fund, and 100 percent of donations will be used locally for recovery efforts, supporting agencies that work in the areas of housing, education, faith, health care and a variety of human needs.

The park board voted unanimously to ratify several appointments to committees, including:

  • T'Noya Thompson, Ben Ritt and Craig Vance to the Beach Maintenance Advisory Committee
  • Len Waterwoth, Julie Ann Brown, Trey Click and Peter Moore to the East End Lagoon Committee
  • Colonel Kerry Crooks to the Parks and Amenities Advisory Committee
  • Shane Cantrell, Ken Friesen and Dennis Nance to the Tourism Development Advisory Committee

The board voted unanimously to approve changes to the Human Resources Policy Manual, but deferred the number of accrual days for vacation days and sick days.

The board voted unanimously to accept an updated agreement with the Cavalla Historical Foundation.

The board voted unanimously to approve 2017-2018 E-Marketing deliverables from Galveston.com.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. Trustee John Zendt was absent. Agenda
