Galveston City Council on Thursday voted unanimously to adopt the FY2018 Budget. Listen (9:17)

Finance Director Mike Loftin said the budget will add ten police officers and maintain basic services emphasizing public safety and infrastructure. There are no changes to water and sewer rates, but a 3 1/2-cent increase is included to fund the bonds the city sold in July as a result of the May elections, said Loftin.

The city council voted unanimously to ratify the property tax increase in the FY2018 Budget.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the 2018 regular meeting schedule.

The city council voted unanimously to authorize the city manager to execute an agreement between the city and James Schweitzer to serve as the municipal court judge for a two-year term.

The city council voted unanimously to appoint Douglas Godinich to the Galveston Port Facilities Corporation. Mayor James Yarbrough and Carolyn Sunseri nominated Godinich.

The city council voted unanimously to appoint Walter Manuel to the Intermodal Transportation Committee. Manuel was nominated by Mayor Yarbrough and Sunseri.
