Council Member Dave Martin Arranges METRO Buses to Attend Hearing

Houston - Houston City Council Member Dave Martin has arranged for two METRO buses to transport a maximum of one hundred Lake Houston Area residents to attend the State of Texas' Natural Resource Committee hearing on Wednesday, October 4, at the George R. Brown Convention Center (1001 Avenida De Las Americas, Houston, TX, 77010 Room 371) at 10:00 a.m.

Buses will depart the Kingwood METRO Park and Ride (3210 W. Lake Houston Parkway, Kingwood, TX, 77339) promptly at 9:00 a.m. There will be two reserved buses parked next to each other away from the usual bus lines for this trip downtown. Plan to arrive early to insure your seat on one of these two buses.

Return trips to the Kingwood METRO Park and Ride will be leaving the George R. Brown Convention Center promptly at 2:00 p.m. from a location designated by the bus driver.

The hearing is expected to cover many topics regarding Hurricane Harvey and flooding in general in addition to invited and public testimony. Items that appear in the State's Public Hearing notice include:

"the role of regional entities in developing projects to control flooding, both through new infrastructure and enhancing existing infrastructure; mitigation efforts that would reduce the impact of future flood events, and strategies to fund those efforts; and the response of public entities that own or operate dams to large-scale rain events, including how such entities make decisions regarding dam and reservoir operations during such events, coordinate with state and local emergency management officials, and communicate with the public."

As an alternative option, Council Member Martin has arranged for the Natural Resource Committee hearing to be streamed live at the Kingwood Community Center located at 4102 Rustic Woods, Kingwood, TX 77339 starting at 10:00 a.m. for those who are unable to travel downtown.

For more information, please contact Council Member Martin's office at (832) 393-3008 or via email at  districte@houstontx.gov.
