Revision to Digital Design Challenge

HOUSTON - Mayor Sylvester Turner announces that the City of Houston is launching the first-ever Digital Design Challenge. The City is calling on innovative Houstonians to provide a vision for the City’s digital presence and website user experience that defines the City of Houston. A panel of judges will select three finalists to receive awards of $1,000 each.

“Houston is full of talented artists, designers, and technologists, and we want to engage them as we work to modernize our online image,” said Mayor Turner. “I am very excited to pilot this challenge and to see what the community comes up with that reflects the diversity and uniqueness of our great city.”

Over one million people visit the City of Houston’s website every month. After hearing concerns from the freelance and design community we have amended the submission requirements as follows:

-    A vision for the City of Houston digital presence (500 words)

-    A vision for the City of Houston website user experience (500 words)

-    Any supporting visual materials (such as a homepage wireframe or presentation deck)

The City of Houston is interested in ideas that can conform to ADA Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 AA. (AAA compliance preferred). A full list description and list of rules can be accessed at http://houstontx.gov/designchallenge/

Complete applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m., Sunday, November 5, 2017 via http://houstontx.gov/designchallenge/. All eligible applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges from the City of Houston and the community. The three finalists will be announced in mid-November 2017.

The Digital Design Challenge will be managed by the Mayor’s Office of Innovation. For questions or comments, please contact Jesse Bounds, at 832.393.9095 or jesse.bounds@houstontx.gov.
