Senator Larry Taylor Re-Appointed to Joint Interim Committee to Study a Coastal Barrier System, Sets Date for First Hearing

AUSTIN - Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has announced the re-appointment of Senator Larry Taylor (R-Friendswood) as a co-chair of the Joint Interim Committee to Study a Coastal Barrier System after this session's passage of House Bill 2252, sponsored by Senator Taylor. The Committee's first hearing has been scheduled for October 10th in Galveston.

Senator Taylor said, "I want to thank the Lieutenant Governor for my appointment and I look forward to continuing to work through the process to get this very important project completed. This is not just a local or regional project; it has statewide and national implications and is vital to the future resiliency of our country. Under the guidance of the Lieutenant Governor and in partnership with my fellow coastal Senate appointee Senator Lois Kolkhorst and the rest of the committee, I am confident our work will be focused and effective". Of the appointment, Lieutenant Governor Patrick said, "In recent days we have seen how important it is that Texas has the best possible systems and infrastructure in place, not only for day-to-day operations, but also for unexpected and sometimes disastrous events. I know that Sen. Taylor and Sen. Kolkhorst are committed to ensuring Texas will continue to lead in every way."

The Joint Interim Committee to Study a Coastal Barrier System was first created in 2013 to study the desirability and feasibility of constructing a coastal barrier system. Senator Taylor has sponsored legislation three times to continue the committee's existence. Its 22 members are comprised of the Senate Natural Resources and Economic Development Committee, the House Land and Resource Management Committee and coastal representatives from both the Senate and House.

Senator Larry Taylor is a lifelong Texan and Baylor University graduate raised in Friendswood. He and his wife Kerri have three adult children and two grandchildren. Senator Taylor owns Truman Taylor Insurance Agency in Friendswood, an independent agency started by his father 55 years ago. Prior to his election to the Texas Senate in 2012, he served five terms in the Texas House of Representatives. Senator Taylor represents Senate District 11, comprised of portions of Brazoria, Galveston, and Harris Counties.
