Lasker Park Community Pool to Close October 9th While Ardent Construction and City Staff Work Together on Finalizing Construction

The Lasker Park Community Pool will be closing on Monday, October 9th, while the City works with Ardent Construction on a list of final adjustments that need to be made before the facility can receive its permanent certificate of occupancy.

City staff worked diligently, alongside the contractor, after numerous weather and construction delays to open the pool in August, however, a punch list of items remains that must be completed this month. Ardent Construction estimates that the adjustments will take approximately a month to complete. Once work has been completed on the facility and the permanent certificate of occupancy obtained, the City plans to reopen the pool.

Upon reopening, the pool will operate under the newly established “off-season” hours. Lap swimming will be available from 8am to 1pm Monday through Friday. Open swim will be available for residents to enjoy from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. The recreation pool will remain closed for the season. The facility will close for winter on Monday November 20th with plans to reopen all areas of the pool for Spring Break 2018.

“We could not have been happier with the excitement and turn out that we had during the summer swim season, “ said the City’s Aquatics Manager, Erica Gentry. “Now is the time where we go back to the contractor and ensure that all of the finishing touches are completed before the City accepts the facility from the contractor. First, we will address areas involving safety improvements, then focus on construction related issues that need to be addressed to ensure the facilities integrity for years to come.”

The City will post progress updates and announce the reopening on the Lasker Park Community Pool website www.galvestontx.gov/letsswim, as well as our social media channels and GTV.
