Investigation into Fatal Crash at 7000 Southwest Freeway

A man critically injured in a crash that occurred at 7000 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) service road about 4:20 p.m. on September 19 has died.

The driver, 65, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead last Tuesday (October 3).  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer C. Cisneros reported:

The victim was driving a gray Ford Ranger southbound on the Southwest Freeway service road when he failed to maintain a single lane and struck the barrier between a freeway entrance ramp and the service road.  The vehicle then bounced back into traffic and struck a gray Mercedes S500 as it was entering the freeway.  The male driver of the Mercedes was not injured.  The victim is believed to have suffered a medical condition prior to the crash.

The investigation is continuing.
