Beaumont City Council

Beaumont City Council today voted 6-1, with Mike Getz opposed, to ratify an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation to expedite removal of debris related to Hurricane Harvey.

TxDOT is providing assistance to local jurisdictions with debris removal. TxDOT will submit costs for reimbursement directly to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, with no charges to the city.

The city council voted 6-1, with Getz opposed, to authorize application for and receipt of funding through the Texas Department of Public Safety/Division of Emergency Management for reimbursement of eligible expenses related to Hurricane Harvey.

The city council voted unanimously to nominate Lauren Williams Mason for election to the Jefferson County Appraisal District Board of Directors.

The city council vote 6-1, with Getz opposed, to approve two percent pay increases for City Manager Kyle Hayes, City Attorney Tyrone E. Cooper, City Clerk Tina Broussard and Chief Magistrate Craig Lively.

The raises are effective immediately.

The city council voted unanimously to confirm several appointments to boards and commissions:

  • Kelly Kays, Sherry Umber, Matthew Fortenberry, Keely Kinsel, Ann Reynolds, Jim Clay, Debbie Rogers and Maryjane Benning were appointed to the Animal Health Advisory Committee
  • Norma Sampson, Rose Blount, Raymond Ambres, and Ava Graves were appointed to the Community Development Advisory Committee
  • Frank Messina, Ann Rothkamm, Ava Graves, Mel Wright, Brenda White, Saab Javed, Rocky Chase and Dr. Richard Leblanc were appointed to the Convention and Tourism Advisory Committee
  • Marty Craig was appointed to the Library Commission
  • Parker Langley and Barbara White were appointed to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
  • Lynda Kay Makin, Eddie Senigaur, Bill Little, and M.S. Shawn were appointed as regular members, and Marty Craig, Sandy Pate and B. Eliot New were appointed as alternates to the Planning and Zoning Commission
  • Reverend Dwight Benoit, Sandra Womack and Jesus Abrego were appointed to the Police Department Community Advisory Committee
  • Pamela Wise was appointed to the Small Business Revolving Loan Fund Board
  • Judy Linsley, Marie Broussard, Dohn LaBiche, Jason Cansler, Jessie Davis and Lynda Kay Makin were appointed to the Historic Landmark Commission

The city council voted unanimously to approve a one-year contract with the Art Museum of Southeast Texas for funding in the amount of $180,000 to support AMSET's activities in the community.

The city council voted unanimously to approve a one-year contract with the Texas Energy Museum for funding in the amount of $95,000 to support the museum's activities.

The city council voted 6-1, with Getz opposed, to approve a one-year contract with BUILD, Inc, Beaumont Main Street for funding in the amount of $75,000 for promotion of downtown business development and retention.

The city council voted unanimously to approve a one-year contract with the Southeast Texas Arts Council to provide funding in the amount of $50,000 in support of the production of the “Off Ramp” magazine and tear off attraction maps for distribution to hotels.

The city council voted unanimously to approve a one-year contract with the Beaumont Heritage Society/John Jay French Museum to provide funding in the amount of $47,000 for historic preservation and promotion of tourism.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
